Want to improve your golf swing? You've just found the right place!
Whilst I am aware of the importance of certain basic aspects of the golf swing, like holding the club correctly and standing to the ball with good posture, the experience gained in 40+ years of giving over 35,000 golf lessons has shown me quite clearly that all of these attributes will count for nothing if you don’t have good movement in your swing. It also demonstrates that there is a modern tendency to over-complicate the simple fluid motion that is inherent in the word 'swing.'
Many top players have their own grip and their own way of addressing the ball and how often do you see a great player with a less than orthodox swing plane? Jim Furyk, Lee Trevino and Bobby Locke, just to mention 3 from a list of many. All great players move well with superb rhythm and balance.
The Positive Impact Golf philosophy helps players of all standards and ages to swing better and enjoy more sweetly struck golf shots. Our coaches understand the importance of seeing the golf swing as a whole entity and not just a series of positions as explained in this quote from Kjell Enhager's excellent book "Quantum Golf"
"Classic fundamentals have their place, and there they are important, but they give an incomplete picture. In the classical frame of mind attention goes to the outer, physical level.
The ball is hard, the club is steel, and so we feel we have to hold the club tightly and swing hard. In Quantum Golf our attention is not actually on the ball. It’s not on any part of the swing or on any particular part of the body.
When you are in a quantum frame of mind your attention shifts to a more complete picture – to the whole of the swing. The parts are included, but they are a secondary consideration. It is the WHOLE swing and the inner rhythm of that whole swing which is important.
We no longer think of the body or the muscles – we put our attention on the inner flow of consciousness."
Another example of this can be found in Ernest Jones' book "Swing The Clubhead"in the forward by Ron Frankel (USPGA member and Director of Teaching at the Frankel Golf Academy in Florida) ...
"Jones realised that motion was essential in the golf swing. He also realised that you couldn't dissect motion into parts and still have motion. Therefore, you couldn't dissect a golf swing into parts and still have a swing."
Modern teaching often focuses on developing static poses, progressing from one precise position to the next precise position in a sort of 'joined up dots' type of method.
As Sam Snead once famously said...
"You can have great positions and a lousy swing, and lousy positions and a great swing."
At Positive Impact Golf we know how to help you to a better swing movement without falling into the trap of being over-technical.
